Conference "Greeks and Gauls in Languedoc"
2,700 years ago, the coastal region of Celtic Europe located between Cape Couronne, to the west of Marseille, and Cape de Creus in Catalonia, began an unprecedented period in its history.
Local populations settled on the coast or in the hinterland (Celts or Gauls, Iberians and Ligurians) gradually came into contact with these groups of Mediterranean explorers and traders. They came from the Phoenician world, Etruria, Greek city-states and, most notably, those who left from a Greek city in the eastern Mediterranean...
Dominique Garcia Professor of Universities, member of the University Institute of France and President of Inrap (National Institute of Preventive Archaeological Research), Dominique Garcia is an archaeologist and historian. He conducts research on urban phenomena and the economy of protohistoric societies (Celts, Gauls, Iberians and Ligurians).
