All around the Mediterranean, we share a culture, a history, and a way of life. Since ancient times, peoples have exchanged and mingled in this meeting point of Africa, Europe, and Asia. An ancient trading space, cradle of great civilizations (Egypt, Greece, Rome, Phoenicia, etc.) and home to many religious communities (Western and Eastern Christians, Muslims, Jews, etc.), the Mediterranean basin presents a great cultural wealth in all fields. The proximity of the azure and the light nourishes our spirit. Throughout this region, the gastronomy tastes of the sun and olive oil, bringing us all together in joy.

This taste for living together around the Mediterranean basin is also experienced through music. The repertoires are linked around themes, musical practices, and common contexts. Many similarities bring work songs and life cycle rituals together. Mediterranean women have been lamenting since antiquity in Rome, Egypt, and the Middle East.

In this concert, Orpheus 21 will showcase the music of Mediterranean cities that intersect and respond to a shared idea of an art of sharing. An Armenian duduk player will join the ensemble to represent the Armenian communities of Lebanon and Syria.
