A bit of history...
Saint Louis founded the fortified town of Aigues Mortes to provide the Kingdom of France with a port on the Mediterranean. At the gates of Camargue, Aigues Mortes rises above the marshes and the pink waters of the salt flat. Enter the town through one of its 10 gates. Take the time to stroll through the medieval city. From the ramparts, take the walk of rounds and wander between past and present. The view of Camargue is magical! Our favorite at the South rampart: the panorama of the pink waters of the famous salt flat.

On the heritage side: the tower of Constance, the ramparts of Aigues Mortes, the church of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, and the Arenas of Grau-du-Roi.

The region is the scene of an extravagant gathering of thousands of animals. Not to mention the emblematic Camargue horse and the pink flamingo, which will not leave nature lovers indifferent.
