The Hortus

The mountain of Hortus (512 m), whose Latin name means 'the garden', is located in the municipality of Valflaunès, in Hérault, about twenty kilometers north of Montpellier. It faces the Saint-Loup peak, situated in immediate proximity. This relief is the result of the fracturing of the Pompignan plateau.

Its spectacular white limestone cliff, rising more than 100 meters and extending over more than a kilometer, is visible from a large part of the Montpellier region. It is home to several pairs of birds of prey. Associated with the Saint-Loup peak, the Hortus is one of the most popular walking sites for the inhabitants of Montpellier.
