«The eye of the archaeologist #2» Temporary exhibition, Prehistory

From April 1 to October 29, 2023, the archaeological site of Cambous hosts the exhibition «L'oeil de l'archéologue#2», which invites us to contemplate, through the eye of the archaeologist, the invisible messages left by prehistoric objects.

Objects from archaeological excavations are a real source of knowledge. A modest detail, sometimes invisible to the naked eye, can be valuable information for the archaeologist. The precise observation of the copper knife, a bone pearl, a richly decorated vase and the practice of archaeological experimentation bring us back to the daily life of our distant ancestors, manufacturing techniques, agriculture, breeding, hunting, everyday life, but also beliefs and rites.

It is to this journey that we invite this exhibition of photographs in very large formats, to return to the traces of our origins. If the houses abandoned 5,000 years ago testify to a bygone era, the objects forgotten by our ancestors tell us of a living world!

Exhibition proposed by the Société Languedocienne de Préhistoire, with the support of the Communauté de communes du Grand Pic Saint-Loup
