Glass Hall - Pic Saint-Loup

Unique in France, the Glass Hall is a museum that traces the history of glass and its techniques from antiquity to the present day in the Mediterranean, nearly 4,000 years of a singular craftsmanship.

A unique place in France

Rock crystal, transparency, opacity, red, blue, floral inclusions, purity and plays of colour: Halle du Verre in Claret is a showcase of light devoted to glass. Housed in the former art glassworks, this interpretation centre presents the entire world of glass throughout history across three areas.

A permanent collection on the history of glass in the Mediterranean from Antiquity to the present day, a workshop where visitors can watch a glassmaker at work, and a temporary exhibition of contemporary creations. Wonder guaranteed for all ages.

A place of art and history

A true link between tradition and modernity, art and craftsmanship, Halle du Verre celebrates a fascinating material through its interplay of light and transparency, and its nature as both an everyday material and a highly symbolic one.

Created with the assistance of scientists and archaeologists, its museum displays trace the history of glass and its development in the Mediterranean basin during Antiquity (from the 5th century BC to the 5th century AD), as well as the more local history of the gentleman glassmakers of Causse de l’Hortus.

Current events

Halle du Verre is exceptionally closed to the public throughout 2026 due to major renovation work at the site. This work aims to improve the visitor experience and ensure the long-term enhancement of this interpretation centre, which is unique in France and emblematic of our heritage.

It is due to reopen in Summer 2027. In the meantime, our area continues to offer a rich programme of museums, exhibitions and cultural events that we will be delighted to help you discover.

“Glassmaker’s Workshop” — lampworking demonstration by Guillaume Domise

In his workshop at the heart of Halle du Verre, glassmaker Guillaume Domise introduces you to the technique of glass lampworking, also known as working glass “at the flame” (or lamp). Demonstrations take place on selected dates (see opening times under Practical information). The pieces made during the public demonstrations are available for purchase from the art shop.

As glass shaping is subject to unpredictable technical constraints, we recommend contacting us before your visit.

When no demonstration is taking place, an audiovisual presentation allows you to experience the atmosphere of the workshop and learn about the composition of this material, the tools used to shape it and the secrets behind its colours.
