Set off on a long journey along the Séranne, a huge stone vessel. When you reach the plateau, the wind from Larzac refreshes the walker. You'll return along some remarkable cobbled paths.

Pégairolles-de-Buèges - Grand Pic Saint-Loup - La Seranne Pontel - Randonnée

A timeless hike.

The Randonnée Séranne Pontel is a sporty tour through the heart of the Séranne massif, between shady valleys and rocky balconies, along cobbled paths and ancient drailles.

Pégairolles-de-Buèges - Grand Pic Saint-Loup - La Seranne Pontel - Randonnée

Starting point: Pégairolles-de-Buèges.

From the parking lot, cross the bridge, cross the D122 and follow the track along the stream. At a footbridge, turn left onto the path which winds for 400 m. Cross the road, cross the bridge and continue along the path to the left. It climbs up to the foot of Pégairolles.

Through the village...

At the calvary, take the path on the left. It climbs up through the village lanes (water point at the belvedere). At the end of Pégairolles, before the last house, turn left down the cobbled path.
Short variation of the circuit (1 h, 2.5 km): turn right on the old path from Pégairolles to Méjanel, which descends towards the parking lot (yellow markings).

Between shade and stream...

At the fourth hairpin bend, leave the return path on the right, go down to the Pontel stream and walk along the low wall on the right. Follow the shaded combe on either side of the brook, passing a spring and continuing along the gradually rising path. Follow the D122 to the left for 800 m.

Pégairolles-de-Buèges - Grand Pic Saint-Loup - La Seranne Pontel - Randonnée 3

Turn right onto the path around Mas Aubert.
It climbs into the Massif de la Séranne through the Pégairolles-de-Buèges state forest (planted with fir and cedar trees).

Between two GRs.

At the crossroads, leave the GR® 74 and take the track on the right (GRP® Tour du Larzac méridional). Pass natural lavognes, then continue and turn right around Mas Larret. Further on, ignore the mas Vieux (private property).

Séranne Pontel - Vue sur Pégairolles-de-Buèges

At the bottom of Pégairolles-de-Buèges.

Leave the GRP®, turn right through the boxwood and continue along the cable path. It winds down the slope into the valley. Turn left onto the D122 for 250 m, then fork right onto the path. This takes you back to the fork in the road at the foot of Pégairolles.

Welcome back!

Take the same route as on the outward journey, through the village to the calvary.

Ignore the path on the right and head down the old, walled school path leading to Méjanel.

In the hamlet, leave the path that climbs to Peyre Martine and turn right into the lane, then onto the old track that leads back to the parking lot.
