Prelude to discovery

To appreciate them better, it is essential first to monitor the serving temperature: 15 to 18°C for reds, 6 to 8° for rosés. While rosés can be served as soon as they are released, reds are best appreciated after 3 to 5 years.

The aging potential of great vintages even allows them to last a decade.

Before serving, it is recommended to prepare red bottles by opening them one to two hours in advance, so the wine can breathe gently.

The choice of glasses is also important; one should avoid straight glasses or balloon glasses. It is very easy to find crystal wine glasses in stores that are fine, solid, and wide enough to appreciate the nectar at its true value!

Let's move on to the tasting…

Of course, you do not fill the glass to the brim; a third of the volume allows you to discover the color while holding the glass either by the base or by the stem. The color, generally superb, bright, and clear, should be dark garnet red for reds, pale pink or slightly deeper for rosés.

Some red wines from a few years may show slight deposits in suspension. This means the wine has not been filtered, which does not detract from its taste quality.

A powerful and complex nose

The second phase comes, which is more important and requires a little more time. It’s time to appreciate the aromas that waft from the glass.

The wines from Pic Saint Loup offer, thanks to the beneficial terroir and the choice of grape varieties, remarkably powerful and complex noses where delicate notes of black fruits (blackberry, currant, cherry…), flowers (violet, jasmine, honeysuckle…), herbs (thyme, bay, rosemary…), and spices (pepper, cinnamon, clove…) mingle.

It should be noted that this bouquet evolves as it aerates in the glass. You can go back to it as often as you wish. Enjoying the evolution of the bouquet in the glass is a true pleasure!

The explosion of flavors

The mouth remains the major phase of tasting. It indicates the balance of flavors, the complexity and power of the aromas, the fineness of the tannins, and finally the aromatic persistence, which is the hallmark of great wines. Finally, know that red wines find their place best at the table.

Tasting should remain a simple, modest, and friendly exercise. The goal is to share the hedonistic pleasure of taste with family or friends, and one cannot go wrong in stating that the wines of Pic Saint Loup are generous in this regard!
