The village tells its story…
The occupation of Ferrières dates back to the Paleolithic, as evidenced by the numerous dolmens and tumulus in the area.
In the Middle Ages, the village was organized around a fortified castle that dominates the region. In the 16th century, Ferrières became an important center for forest glassmaking, utilizing wood from local forests to produce artisan glass. This activity continued until the 18th century and left a lasting mark on the village's economy and identity.

The dolmen of Ferrières: dating from 2500-2300 B.C., this megalithic monument yielded archaeological objects attesting to funerary rites.
Saint John the Baptist Church: Romanesque building from the 11th century, restored after the destruction caused by the Camisards wars, with a classified bell from 1646.
The Couloubrines glassworks : a testimony to the activity of gentleman glassmakers, this archaeological site offers a glimpse into glass production on the limestone plateau of Orthus.

The village is integrated into the Natura 2000 site of the high garrigues of Montpellier, offering landscapes of garrigues, forests, and limestone plateaus, conducive to hiking and observing local fauna and flora.
Did you know?
In the 16th century, the Couloubrines glassworks in Ferrières-les-Verreries was run by the La Roque family, nicknamed the “gentleman glassmakers”. Their wood-fired furnaces and unique know-how allowed the production of exceptional blown glass, the techniques of which were passed down from generation to generation.
