On the route of the Chemin des Verriers which crosses the Causse de l'Hortus, Ferrières-les-Verreries is situated in the heart of the garrigues of the north of Hérault.

It has many dolmens and several glassworks, including that of Couloubrines, and a small church decorated with Romanesque elements.

The name of the commune comes from the fact that the traditional economy was for a long time based on the exploitation of wood for the ovens of the glassmakers.
Ferrières-les-Verreries is also known in the world of archaeology for its many dolmens, one of which is the eponymous site of the Ferrières civilisation.

The Couloubrines glassworks is the last easily readable evidence of the glassmaking activity that characterised the garrigues of the Pic Saint-Loup and, above all, the Hortus causse, between the 13th century and the Revolution. It was reconstructed following excavations carried out in 1989.

Another causse settlement that has been studied is the Seube, which provided a beautiful cup on display at the Halle du Verre de Claret, located a few kilometres away in the plain.

The limestone plateau, covered with large forests in prehistoric times, was the chosen domain of several populations that followed one another from the Neolithic to the Copper Age. The Ferrierians (2800 - 2300 BC) left many dolmens here. One of them provided the material from which this civilisation was described.

Another of these collective tombs can be seen on the Sentier des Asphodèles, which starts not far from the Mas de Baumes.

As for the village of Ferrières-les-Verreries, it is organised around its well and its church built at the end of the 11th century and the beginning of the 12th, but badly damaged during the Camisard war (1703).
