The village tells its story…
The name of the village has its roots in Occitan: Sant Gèli (Saint Gilles) and fesc meaning « checkpoint » or « toll ».
Three archaeological sites coexist in the municipality: les Vautes, le Rouergas, and la Colline de l’Homme Mort, which testify to human occupations since the Neolithic, over 4,000 years ago. Over the centuries, Saint-Gély-du-Fesc has transitioned from a small rural community to a present-day municipality with over 10,600 inhabitants today.
