The name Rouet is mentioned since the Middle Ages.
At that time, the village's life was closely linked to the parish of Saint-Etienne-de-Gabriac, which ensured worship and religious organization. The parish priest was appointed by the cathedral chapter of Montpellier, reflecting the close link between Rouet and regional religious institutions
