The village tells its story…
The name Teyran comes from the Gallo-Roman gentilic Terius, to which the suffix -anum is added, meaning "domain of".
Thus, Teyran was the domain of Terius, a Roman legionnaire who is said to have settled in the region in the 1st century AD. Remains from this period, such as a Roman villa and a necropolis, testify to this ancient occupation.
In the Middle Ages, the village is mentioned in the cartulary of Maguelone. The castle of Teyran, erected in 1200 by Lord Guillaume d'Aubeterre, overlooks the village and bears witness to its strategic role in medieval times. The village was also an important transit point between Nîmes and Larzac, which favored its development.
